Inspirational Person Project 8th Grade

When asked to pick someone who inspired me, my mind went blank. It took me a few days, and I had to ask a lot of people for ideas, but it finally came down to this guy: Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson is an amazing performer. He has so much confidence and self-assurance. I admire him for this, but, I mostly think he is inspiring because of his dancing. I love to dance, so seeing so much talent really blows my mind and really makes me want to dance even more and to dance even better. I think he was the perfect person for me to do this project on.

The most challenging process in this project, for me, was having to re-draw Michael Jackson’s face after I traced the projection. this took a lot of time and really intimidated me for quite some time. The most successful part however, was the painting. You couldn’t really tell who my person was until his hair was painted on. I think that added tons to the portrait.

During this project, I used many art elements including: Color, space, value and line. For color, I used achromatic, black and white, vs. a colored monochromatic. I chose this because I thought that it would be more dramatic. I used space by creating none. I wanted all of the focus to be on his smiling face, which again, is more powerful. Michael Jackson had a very dramatic life, like many famous people, which is why I wanted to choose the colors that I did. I chose to paint them in colors from white to black because of again, the drama, and also because both of these colors played a major role in his life. I wanted to choose a picture with a lot of his hair showing, because of the color of it. The color of his hair, black, has so much depth and emotion in it. I think this color represents him very well. For the value of the painting, I chose to use the colors from white all the way to black. Again, this is more powerful and dramatic. He seems to have a deep history full of emotion. Although the tough situations he has been through couldn’t have been too beneficial to his life, I do believe that it made him a better performer and possibly encouraged him to pursue his career; which intern benefited many people in pursuing their own aspirations, just like me.
